Cause and effect, this will only add more fuel to the fire .I expect the numbers in the ddos attacks to rise. The fact that they hacked into the servers suggests they know what they were doing and were probably paid for doing it .

If the host is pointing the finger at an ex-employee it’s likely that they are correct. Most attacks on servers come from disgruntled ex-employees which is why it has been stated again and again by security experts to change vital passwords and close down any accounts that the employee had access to. It seems that the host was caught with their pants down on this one.

Because #17, these are not simply desktop PCs. They are servers hosting multiple web sites, many of which will be completely unrelated to torrent sites. You can’t simply fix an MBR and hook the server back up to the Internet and hope for the best, there are certain procedures that hosting providers must go through to ensure that the servers are no longer compromised. This takes time and a lot of effort.

I ran a port scan on the address for tehparadox.com a while ago saw most of the server usuals open… except 80. This may not mean a whole lot knowing that in a server farm like this there’s a lot of routing tricks going on with vhosts and all that, but you would think that there would be something on 80. So, at least whatever machine (the traffic cop) is getting the true hits on the IP is up and running.

Not all the sites hosted with Reality Check were torrent or porn related. Many of us, like my site, were sports or guy’s entertainment related.
Several of my friends sites were hosted with Reality Check, and they aren’t low-rent. In fact, many of them like my site were very reputable and had dollar values in excess of six figures.
I’m one of those whose site may never be recovered, potentially costing me three years of my work.
I agree with those who believe Reality Check failed to plan for an invent such as this. Moreover, they’re response to site owners hasn’t been nearly as expeditious as suggested. It took them nearly 11 hours to alert us what happened.
Suffice it to say, I’ll be looking for a new host if my site can be recovered. If it can’t, then I’ll have to pursue other action to offset my losses.

@Moondog, how retarded are you? If you truly have a site with a value of “six figures” surely you’d have a disaster recovery plan.
The rule of thumb with servers is not if a disaster happens, it’s when. I’ve had servers for years, I’ve had failed drives which resulted in lost data (not backed up) as I relied on them. Since then I back up everything both to secondary hard drives in the servers and then nightly to Amazon S3.
I’ve moved server providers before and it used to take 10 hours to fully configure a few at a new provider, now with pre-written scripts I can fully restore one backed up server in about 10 minutes…
Anyone who relies on a hosting provider for their data is beyond stupid. Always have a backup OFF-SITE plan.

Now this annoys me.
Any real skilled hacker has but one rule to follow which is “do no harm” which is obviously to avoid giving hackers a bad reputation when many just want to look, learn and to peer at some people’s secrets. In, out and ideally never known.
Corrupting the MBR is a very easy thing to do. So is fixing the MBR but the less skilled go with back-ups or new installs.
It is very lucky your average hacker does not do likewise or many millions of computers would vanish from the Net overnight.
I can only suspect that some hacker was paid to do this. You soon guess their type of client. Nice in my view if the police track them down and make arrests, even if it may take another hacker to follow their trail back to them.
I cant see I like what I see these days but then the 1st Internet War is due and it is only a matter of time.

tehparadox is a great site for direct DL links and after spending 7 years + using torrents and relying on people seeding files i then found using direct DL links a lot easier and faster

I’m also on RCN (and I know 3 others who are). I have 26 sites down. Some were receiving large traffic. It’s an understatement to say i’m pissed off right now. Now they want us to go over to ISPrime? I’m confused. Do they even support download/torrent sites? If it was going to take this long RCN really should have let us know in the beginning, by giving us an estimated ETA. I can’t help but think this ex-employee was paid off by some anti-piracy agency. And hearing that the MBR can be fixed? I hope RCN haven’t overlooked that. I am not sure what to do at this point.

Just search/google the titles of your shows and you’ll find that not all big download sites are down…
I’ve found all the shows that I’ve downloaded from TP elsewhere and it was quite easy….
A winner will find a way and a loser just boast and complains…

I initially thought that tehparadox.com was going under maintanance… but its been more than 3- 4 days now, and this is terrible! I would have to agree that tehparadox.com probably has the best community out there. I am praying that they will be able to get their site back on!

Reality Check no longer blames this on an ex-employee. They were just massively hacked. Check out thewhir.com (Web Hosting Industry News). On their home page click on the Web Host News tab for an article on this quoting the company prez. Prez says they have contacted the employee (who left the company on good terms) and are now convinced he was not responsible. Apparently RCN’s server base is severly corrupted and RCN is advising clients to move to an alternate provider.

This lengthy downtime is painful. I plan to stay with RCN because they have been excellent for the last 5 or so years I’ve used them. Support is always very good (now is an exception of course). They are working their arses off trying to get customers up again. To all those site owners on RCN, I share your pain.

the people who did the denial of service attack on tehparadox.com is wiiso.com
dom the admin paid 4 people from overseas to ruin there servers so all the people goto his network
he knows he cant compete with tehparadox.com so the only way he can get people onto wiiso.com is to bring down sites that has wii games on it
